Christ Gospel Church of Tyler, Texas is an affiliate church of Christ Gospel Churches International, Inc. based in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Christ Gospel Church of Tyler is independently organized and governed but is ecclesiastically affiliated with Christ Gospel Churches International, Inc. Christ Gospel is a fundamentalist, Pentecostal Christian group. Like most Christian denominations, it espouses a set of doctrines known as the Apostles’ Creed. Like most Pentecostal groups, the church believes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, and Christ Gospel services are exuberant celebrations. People sing, shout, dance, clap, run, praise, and worship God with all their beings.
Yet at times the services are quiet enough to hear a pin drop as members study the Bible attentively. Christ Gospel churches believe that worshiping God embraces the use of all kinds of music and instruments.
At Christ Gospel Church, one will hear traditional church instruments — drums, guitars, saxophones, violins, trumpets as well as traditional church instruments accompanying traditional church hymns, country gospel music, black gospel music, even classical oratories.
The church emphasizes the importance of people being united in the love of Christ, regardless of nationality, race, sex, or creed. In fact, Christ Gospel churches were racially integrated long before the rest of society – not because the church was politically active, but merely because it strongly believed this was the right way for Christians to be.
Christ Gospel Church believes that their ministry is to help Christians discover a closer walk with God. Like other churches in the world, Christ Gospel Church believes that the ultimate experience of human beings is to achieve total oneness with God; consequently, the church’s teachings involve helping Christians grow spiritually until Christ totally fills their lives.
Understanding Our Style of Worship:
Worship services at a Christ Gospel Church are exuberant celebrations of God’s Love, Light, and Life. They are a time of joy, a time of gratitude, a time of releasing, and a time of transformation. We shout, we dance, we leap, and we speak in tongues. We clap our hands in song and in praise, and we lift our hands in prayer and surrender. We cry and groan in intercession and travail, as the Holy Spirit moves and speaks through us.
Sometimes, we tremble and shake, and fall out in a trance or pray face down, as a symbol of total surrender to our LORD. All these demonstrative worship experiences uplift our hearts and cleanse our minds so that we can receive God’s Word on a deeper level. Once people open their hearts to these spiritual experiences, they find great inspiration and renewal, and, more importantly, a closer walk with Jesus Christ and a greater understanding of His Word. Our worship services follow a principle of total freedom of expression, a principle well established in God’s Holy Word.
Spiritual Freedom means to be liberated from fleshly control, both from within and from without. It means to have immunity from the specified control and obligations of unknowledgeable people who would prevent us from performing true worship to the LORD from our spiritual heart. Spiritual liberty implies the absence of hindrance, restraint, and confinement of the Lord’s Holy Spirit by one’s carnal reasoning.
